Hanmer is set on the Alpine Pacific touring route, which runs from the Pacific Ocean coast at Kaikoura to Hanmer Springs and up to Amberley, south of Christchurch. this area is noted for the Hot Springs at Hanmer, the wine area at Waipara and of course the outstanding marine wildlife of Kaikoura, to name just a few of the reasons you should visit.

If you love the outdoors, you will want to visit the alpine wilderness areas near Hanmer Springs. The Lewis Pass Area and Lake Sumner Forest Park offer excellent hiking possibilities, while the area around the town abounds in adventure activities. There are many interesting routes for 4WD explorers, while fishermen and hunters will find plenty to do in the surrounding countryside.

Hanmer Springs is a vibrant alpine village with plenty to do! As well as the world-famous Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa, there are more than fifty kilometres of walking tracks, an excellent range of outdoor activities for all the family, and an excellent 18-hole par 54 golf course.
The scenery is magnificent, and within ten minutes’ drive you can be up above the village snapping the magnificent views on one of the gravel roads that lead up into the high Country runs of the St James and Molesworth Stations. Further along the mountain roads more scenery unfolds – unparalleled scope for photography in any season.

If you enjoy dining out, the village offers a range of options for dining, from simple café meals and takeaways to á la carte restaurant service.
